East London bakery Lily Vanilli has launched a new project with the Mayor's Fund for London (MFL) in which the team will bake and deliver birthday cakes across all boroughs of the city to children who may not otherwise get one.

The bakery, which has been known to supply cakes to A-list stars such as Elton John, Madonna and major fashion designer Alexander McQueen, has launched the initiative to mark its 15th birthday.

Those who receive a birthday cake will be able to select their favourite design from a specially designed range, choose a colour and custom flavour (including a choice of vanilla, chocolate, rose, coconut, lemon, raspberry and salted caramel), and even add a piped message on top.

To help the generous scheme come to life, customers can donate either the cost of an entire cake (£40), the cost of cake and delivery (£70), or contribute to part of the cost from just £1. Following each donation, all donors will receive a thank you email from the team.

The birthday cake donations will be an ongoing initiative, and can be made via the Lily Vanilli website.

Lily Vanilli owner, Lily Jones, started out in 2008, and went on to open the Sunday cafe on Columbia Road in 2010, with a second spot opening more recently in Tbilisi, Georgia. She is also the author of three best selling cookbooks: Sweet Tooth, A Zombie Ate My Cupcake and 2018’s #BakeForSyria.

The Mayor's Fund for London is a charity that focuses on helping young Londoners from low income households and diverse communities, and is the capital’s largest provider of holiday food and activities for children and young people.
