5 of London’s top venues and their Spice Girls counterparts
To celebrate the news of the Spice Girls’ 2019 tour, we’ve chosen five of the venues on our radar that reflect each of the group’s members, from sporty to scary. So, who do we think they are?

The ‘Sporty’ one

Chelsea FC

Her sport of choice is famously football, so it would be remiss of us not to choose a footie stadium as the Sporty Spice of the group (albeit a rival to her beloved Liverpool FC). Chelsea Football Club at Stamford Bridge is a popular venue for Chelsea fans (its walls are lined with memorabilia) and non-fans (there’s much more than the team to like about this venue) alike. As well as the main stadium’s meeting and events spaces, the onsite music venue Under The Bridge has seen big-name artists grace its stage – including Melanie C herself.

The ‘Scary’ one

London Dungeon tourist attractions venues events

If a venue that sees guests have a drink in Jack the Ripper’s favourite pub,  have a close shave at Sweeney Todd’s barbershop and experience the Drop Dead ride doesn’t make it as our pick for London’s scariest venue, we don’t know what would. London Dungeon in County Hall on the South Bank isn’t just for kids. Groups can hire the place out in its entirety for an evening that would make even Scary Spice quake in her platform boots. It’s not all in the name of schadenfreude though: groups can be rewarded for their bravery with three-course dinners after their spell in the dungeons. Trust us: they’ll need a stiff drink.

The ‘Baby’ one

Sketch Gallery May 2016 4

The colour pink was our inspiration for Baby Spice’s venue counterpart. With its bubblegum colour palette, ever-changing David Shrigley works on the walls and huge Insta following, it will come as no surprise then that The Gallery at Sketch made the cut. The space itself is best suited to small, one-on-one lunch or dinner meetings but if you’re after something more exclusive then the baby of the venue, the new Millicent Fawcett private dining room which seats eight, is the ideal spot.

The ‘Ginger’ one

St Pancras Renaissance Hotel - venue hire

With its red brick exterior and iconic London status, we think Geri Horner (nee Halliwell) would be honoured to be associated with the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. And that’s before we realised it’s staircase was the filming location for the group’s iconic ‘Wannabe’ video. Originally opened in 1873, the five-star, luxury hotel as gone through a reinvention of its own in recent years. VIPS can have their photo opportunity on the staircase before making use of the hotel’s 10 event spaces.

The ‘Posh’ one

Claridge's - venue hire

The Beckham dynasty often use this celeb haunt in Mayfair as their home from home when they visit the capital. It’s also pretty posh, so we had to pick Claridge’s as the ‘real lady’ of the group. Victoria is a regular on the guest list of some the hotel’s most A-list events and even threw her mum a party in one of its private rooms to celebrate her turning 60 (rumour has it a lot of pink champagne was involved). ‘Timeless glamour’ is a phrase often associated with the hotel and could arguably be used to describe fashion entrepreneur Mrs B - we’re ignoring the early Noughties. It also has one of London’s most impressive ballrooms for super luxe parties: it’s elegant, glamourous and, having played host to LFW, fashion forward – just like Posh Spice herself.
